Day 1
The first of a kind choral competition hosted by Hindustan University was inaugurated by the Chancellor , Hindustan University. The first day of the preliminary round saw the enthusiastic participation of around 17 schools despite the on-going examinations. The stage was set ablaze with the breathtaking performances of the children all adorned in colorful costumes with props that added a festive value to their performances. In her inaugural address, the Chancellor, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese, was elated to see such an exposition of talent and spirit that was so characteristic of the festive season. She wished all the children the very best for their performances and was glad to be a part of a very refreshing day.
The choral competition was judged by some of the most distinguished iconic personalities in the realm of choral singing – Mrs. Martha Howie and Mrs. Sharada Shaffter along with the convenor of the competition – Prof. Winfred Chelliah, Choir Master , HITS.

Day 2
This was the day to showcase the talents of the College students who brought in a higher degree of technicality into their singing along with ingenuity in terms of innovative compilations of the existing Christmas tradition numbers. Once again, the judges forum comprised of Mrs. Martha Howie and Mrs. Sharada Shaffter along with the convenor of the competition – Prof. Winfred Chelliah, Choir Master , HITS who gave their feedback on all performances.

Day 3
Day 3 brought together most of the renowned choirs in the city on a common platform showcasing both traditional and innovative styles of rendering traditional Christmas numbers. Around 10 churches pitted their talents on this platform in an effort to book a place in the finals in the church category. The judges ,Mrs. Martha Howie and Mrs. Sharada
Shaffter along with the convenor of the competition – Prof. Winfred Chelliah, Choir Master , HITS gave their feedback on all performances.

During the forenoon session of 16 Dec’ 2011 three teams from each category – schools, colleges and churches would battle it out for the top spot in their respective categories. The first prize winning team in each category will render their prize winning performances in the Christmas celebrations of the Hindustan Group of Institutions(HGI) scheduled to take off at 2:00pm on the 16th Dec’ 2011 in the MGR Hall. The Carol Service of HGI will feature performances from the faculty and students of all HGI institutions in addition to the prize winning choirs of the “Carol The King Choral Competition -2011”.
