Hindustan University inks MOU with YILDIZ Technical University

Hindustan University inks MOU with YILDIZ Technical University, Turkey for a protocol on Educational and Scientific Cooperation

Hindustan University signed an MOU with YILDIZ Technical University, Istanbul, Republic of Turkey, to join in the protocol on educational and scientific cooperation.  This was signed by Mr. Ashok Verghese, Director of Hindustan University and Prof. Dr.Yusuf Avaz, the Vice-Rector of YILDIZ University, Turkey.
This enabled the two universities to cooperate in education, and research in areas of mutual interest.
The areas of cooperation extends over exchange of faculty and students, joint research activities, lectures, seminars, academic meetings, published academic material and other information with special short-term academic programmes.

The University campus is well equipped with smart classrooms and laboratory facilities.

Hindustan University joins hands with Moscow Aviation Institute




Hindustan University joins hands with Moscow Aviation Institute.  An MoU was signed between Mr. Ashok Verghese, Director, ( can be seen in above photo second from right ) Hindustan Group of Institutions, and Rector of Moscow Aviation Institute, National Research Academy, Russian Federation on the occasion.  Director was supported by Dr. Pon Ramalingam, Registrar at the alliance ( can be seen above photo first from right ). 


In another significant development in going global, Hindustan University, Chennai joined hands with Moscow Aviation Institute, Russian Federation thereby strengthening its flagship programme enabling through faculty & student exchange programs, technical and joint Research Projects.

            Also, this MOU enabled the students from Hindustan University to pursue programme at Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University) located at Russian Federation.  The University is facilitated with world class and state-of-the-art technology, infrastructure and highly intellectual academic resources.
This MOU will also help them to participate in the mutual exchange of scientific, educational and cultural experiences.

About Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University) Russian Federation

            The school equips its graduates to work at the designing of flying vehicles for various purposes including the estimation of their effectiveness and conceptual design; in aerodynamics and flight dynamics; certification (standardization) and flightworthiness testing.
The school includes several R&D departments such as Pilot Vehicle System laboratory, joint engineering design office, ‘Aerocar’ Sectoral Specific Design Bureau of an experiment Aircraft Construction, Technical maintenance sector for special-purpose computers and student design office of aircraft modeling.

The curriculum includes different practical trainings, working, technological design and pre-graduation trainings. Many pre-graduate students undergo a summer pilot training at “Alferyevo” aero Aerodrome (Moscow Region).
The MOU also facilitates promotion of collaboration activities in fields of mutual interest, organizing joint lectures and symposia, and exchange of academic information and materials.
On behalf of Hindustan University the visiting delegation consisted of Director,                                          
Mr. Ashok Verghese who signed the MOU and Dr. Pon Ramalingam, Registrar.  The MOU was signed on 24th May 2012 between Director of Hindustan University and Rector of Moscow Aviation Institute, National Research Academy, Russian Federation.

Inauguration of CAADRIA 2012 at Hindustan University

The inauguration of the 17th International Annual Conference of the Association for Computer Aided Architectural Design Research In Asia (CAADRIA) was held at Hindustan University on 25th April 2012, at Hindustan University, Padur campus. It is for the first time in South India that the CAADRIA conference is hosted and Hindustan University is privileged to host the same the conference will be held from 25th – 28th April 2012.

The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. K. Sarukesi. He accorded a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, N. Raghavendran, C.R.Narayana Rao, Chennai, India, The Guest of Honour, Mr. Amit Shrivastava, Director, Consulting, Bentley Systems, India. He also welcomed the key note speaker and Special Guest for the 17th edition of CAADRIA conference, Prof.Mark Burry, Professor of Innovation(Spatial Information Architecture) Director, SIAL, RMIT University , Ar. Andrew I-Kang Li President of CAADRIA, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese, Chancellor and Conference Chair Mrs. Sheeba Chander CAADRIA 2012 & HOD of the School of Architecture, Hindustan University, other dignitaries , delegates, media , management , staff and students of Hindustan University.

Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Hindustan University in her Presidential Address, stated that she was privileged to preside over the conference. She gave a brief introduction about Hindustan University, she mentioned that this institution followed the ideals of the great visionary and Founder Chairman, late Dr.K.C.G.Verghese. The institution conducts 22 UG and 32 PG programmes. The highlights of the University are that the School of Architecture conducts UG and PG programmes in General Architecture and Housing. The institution has been authorized to conduct NATA exams. It was also selected for the ECO 3 Project by USA this year . The Young CAADRIA ’10 was awarded to our faculty, Mr R. Balaji. It is indeed a proud moment for Hindustan University as it had the privilege to host the CAADRIA conference for the first time in South India. She highlighted the theme for the Conference” Beyond Codes and Pixels”, and elaborated that digital design is an important and a rapidly developing tool. This conference will provide awareness to enhance computational tools with the best known experts showcasing their design technologies. She concluded her speech stating that these design tools will soon enter the Indian subcontinent and be an indispensable architectural tool.

Ar. Andrew Li, President CAADRIA provided an overview of CAADRIA 2012. The conference creates awareness of the recent developments in the field of architecture at the global level. Countries from the six continents take part in the conference. It was first hosted in Hongkong in 1996 and since, 16 conferences have been held in various parts of the world. India had the proud privilege to host two conferences so far, the first CAADRIA conference in India was held at New Delhi in the year 2005, the second is currently held at Hindustan University from 25th April to 28th April 2012. This conference provides academicians the right platform for international experts, practitioners and researchers from reputed organizations in the field of architecture to interact and share their views. He expressed his wish that Hindustan University successfully conducts the CAADRIA 2012.

The Chief Guest. C. N. Raghavendra in his address said he was proud to be a part of the 17th edition of CAADRIA 2012 and he congratulated Hindustan University for hosting the same.

Hindustan University has taken a lead to host this important conference and it provides a right platform for architects, academicians and scholars from India and abroad. This conference would pave way for enlightening how the new tools and technologies would enhance the efficiency of sustainability. He also spoke on the status of architecture as a multi disciplinary, architecture is the first step and the other disciplines follow suit in construction technology. In the present scenario, the aspects of architecture are not glued to drawing board and co-ordination of mind and hand. The thinking process has been enhanced from 2 dimensional to 3 dimensional levels. He concluded stating that great architects have used advanced technology for their best designs.

Guest of Honour, Mr. Amit Shrivastava, Director, Consulting, Bentley Systems, India addressed the audience. He expressed his excitement to be a part of the CAADRIA conference. He informed that he had the privilege to present papers at CAADRIA conferences and now it is his proud privilege to be the Guest of Honour at the 17th CAADRIA conference at Hindustan University. This was followed by a key note address and a presentation by Prof. Mark Burry, Professor of Innovation (Spatial Information Architecture) Director, SIAL, and RMIT University.

Chancellor, Dr. Elizabeth Verghese released the proceedings of the 17th CAADRIA Conference and the first copy was handed over to Mr. Andrew Li, President CAADRIA 2012.

Ar,. C.N. Raghavendran released a souvenir titled,”SIGARAM” with beyond codes and pixels as the theme and the first copy was handed over to Prof. Mark Burry. The dignitaries were also presented mementos on this occasion.

Pre Event Press Conference - CAADRIA 2012

The 17th International Annual Conference of the Association for Computer Aided Architectural Design Research In Asia (CAADRIA) will be held from the 25th to the 28th April 2012, at Hindustan University, Padur campus.

A pre event press conference was held at Le Royal Meridien on the 20th April 2012 in commemoration with the 17th International CAADRIA conference to be hosted by Hindustan University. This international conference is held for the first time in South India and Hindustan University has the proud privilege to host this conference.

Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Chancellor of Hindustan University and Chairperson of the Hindustan Group of Institutions, Dr. K Sarukesi, Vice chancellor of Hindustan University, Ar. Andrew I-Kang Li President of CAADRIA and conference chair Mrs. Sheeba Chander CAADRIA 2012, and HOD of the School of Architecture, Hindustan University were the prominent members who formed the panel for the press conference.

The press meet commenced with an introduction by the Conference Chair Mrs. Sheeba Chander, who briefed us on the journey down the long road that began in Hong Kong where a student, R Balaji, of the School of Architecture had attended the 15th CAADRIA conference . He was also awarded the Young CAADRIA 2010 award. It was at the 15th CAADRIA conference that CAADRIA expressed keen interest in having Hindustan University as the host for the 17th Annual Conference and following this, a CAADRIA representative had come down to inspect the University and was impressed by the excellent infrastructure and the competent team comprising of a highly motivated management representatives with a bright vision qualified and experienced faculty and enthusiastic students. Amongst the shortlisted schools, Hindustan University was finally selected as the host for the 17Th Conference. She also highlighted the facilities and the achievements of the School Of Architecture and she also briefly explained about the 17th International Conference 2012 to be held at Hindustan University, which would be attended by international experts, practitioners and researchers from reputed organizations in the field of architecture.

The next to address the press was the President of CAADRIA, Mr. Andrew Li who enlightened us on the technical side of the CAADRIA conference. He said there would be 70 papers presented over the span of 4 days, at the 17th CAADRIA conference 2012 which will be held at Hindustan University. He briefed us on how these papers were selected. He called it a “quality assurance system” through a double blind review process by a panel of more than 50 experts. Every paper abstract is first reviewed by a committee and those selected are requested to submit the full paper which is again scrutinized and selectively chosen by experts in that particular field.

In her message to the press, Dr. Elizabeth Verghese announced that it is the proud privilege of the Hindustan University to host the 17th CAADRIA Conference 2012. She informed that the conference will be addressed by eminent speakers from India and abroad, this conference hosted by the university will provide an excellent platform for facilitating the promotion of knowledge about CAAD amongst Architectural schools researchers and practitioners. She was happy to introduce to the press the keynote speakers of the forthcoming international conference, Gautam Pennathur, Chairman , Faculty of Technology & Professor, Centre for Biotechnology, Anna University, Chennai, Hari Varma, Chief Creative Officer, Toonz Animation India Pvt. Ltd, Trivandrum India and Professor Mark Burry , Professor of Innovation (Spatial Information Architecture) RMIT University. She highlighted the fact that technology has revolutionized every endeavor and architecture is no exception. The highlight of this conference is that it is for the first time the CAADRIA conference is held in South India and Hindustan University has the proud privilege to host a reputed international conference. She also expressed her wish that School of Architecture, Hindustan University would conduct the 17th CAADRIA Conference 2012 in a successful manner.

Dr. K Sarukesi, Vice Chancellor, Hindustan University also addressed the press. He thanked CAADRIA for selecting Hindustan University to conduct this prestigious conference and congratulated the School Of Architecture for having taken up the challenge to conduct the international conference. He underlined the fact that the focus of this institution has grown from not just imparting knowledge but also to develop cutting edge research technology and industrial interaction. He was happy to note that 80-100 participants from abroad and from all over India are expected for this conference.

He also stated that CAADRIA 2012, is our 3rd international conference of the year 2012. The first was the Defence Education Conference conducted by Hindustan University in collaboration with Cranfield University. U.K. The 2nd was a seminar on Clean Energy and Nano-Convergence which was conducted by our Centre of Excellence, Hindustan University in association with Dongguk University, South Korea. He wished that the17th CAADRIA Conference 2012 would be a grand success.

Mahindra Igniter's Day

18th April 2012 student and staff of Hindustan University were seen gazing at a large banner placed in front of the Building Sciences Block and Department of Automobile Engineering. The banner depicted the history of vehicles that had been manufactured by Mahindra & Mahindra showcasing the heritage of its Automotive and Farm Sector.

Hindustan Institute Of Technology & Science witnessed for the first of its kind recruitment cum students competitions. The session was termed as ‘Mahindra Igniter’s Day’, and it was organized by a collaborative effort of the Department of Automobile Engineering and Placement Office of HITS, led by a team of personnel’s from M&M.

The session included 3 events to test the skills of the budding engineers. The events consisted of a Technical paper presentation (Technical Quotient), Design contest (Design Quotient) and Quiz Contest (General Quotient). With excitement and enthusiasm the students began to flock around the registration counter for their passport.

PASSPORT? Well that was not only an eye-catching part on the posters for the event as those were being watched all over the campus of HITS; also a dream opportunity for 1st ,2nd , 3rd year U.G. and 1st year P.G. students as the passport meant much for everyone. The passport were the tickets for an opportunity to attempt for direct interview rounds with Mahindra and Mahindra during their recruitment process.

The HITS authorities who were present during the events were Dr. Pon Ramalingam. Registrar, Dr. Roy Chowdhury, Dean of Mechnical Sciences, Dr. M. Subramanian, HOD, Automobile Engineering, Mr. K. Kamalakkannan, Asst. Prof. Auto. Dept. , Mr. Baby Thomas , Placement Officer and the team of Mahindra expertise.

The design quotient was the first event. The participants were provided with a theme ‘URBAN MOBILITY VEHICLE’, with the constraints relating to lightweight, fuel efficiency redundancy with futuristic design aspects. The design had to be presented with a minimum 100 words write-up. Participants started working hard on the paper started decoding their imaginations, sketching their best ideas and solutions.

A Mahindra XUV 500 was displayed at Hindustan University, and it was a test-drive vehicle everyone was aspiring to drive(Part of the product display Unit). Another XUV 500 was parked in front of the the Automobile Lab, along with a Mahindra Swaraj Tractor. Surrounded with LCD’s and Sound Systems, the display vehicles seemed like stars on the red carpet, nevertheless there was a red carpet beneath them!

The second session of the events started with the technical paper presentation and the quiz contest . The General Quotient (quiz contest) started with a preliminary qualification round after which 5 teams were selected for the final round. The individuals from the winning team were first year students from HITS.

In the meanwhile the individual participants for the Technical paper presentation were also held. The results were declared and words of appreciation were being shared by respective dignitaries of M&M and HITS. The day ended with the prize distribution ceremony . The budding engineers of Hindustan University had a memorable day learning, sharing and enjoying the day’s task with competitions, experience and better hopes for the future.

Literary Club conducts an interactive session with Author Harsh Snehanshu

Young Talented Author Harsh Snehanshu inspires students of HITS

11th April 2012, was an eventful day for Hindustan University loaded with several activities at different venues. Free Heart Check up camp organized by Y’s Men International Madras District , Placement activities and to top it all it was a great opportunity for the Languages Department of the School of Humanities to organized an interactive meeting with young talented author Harsh Snehanshu. The meeting was held at Good Shepherd Hall packed with enthusiastic audience constituting engineering students of our University with literary interest and staff from Languages Department.

The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by Dr. Usha Mahadevan, HOD. Languages Dept. She appreciated Mr. Ashok Verghese, Director for initiating this event and thanked Ms. Akkara Sherine , Asst. Prof. English , the coordinator of the programme. She introduced the Chief Guest Harsh Snehanshu an IITian and the author of the novel “Ooops! I fell in love” and “Ouch! That Hearts”.

Harsh Snehanshu shared his views about his accomplishment as an author and his keen interest in his pursuit and goal. He answered a flurry of questions raised by staff and students. They were awe struck at his intelligible and humorous ways of answering queries and it struck an instant harmonious chord with the entire audience.

The students also had a great chance to meet Mr. Rajeev Mahadevan, Assistant Systems Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services and curator of TEDx SRM. Students were eager to know more about TEDx and he briefed them about the same. He also encouraged the students to involve in the formation of TEDxHindustan.

A student Ms. Jennifer proposed the Vote of Thanks. She stated that it was a great opportunity for the students and staff to have Mr. Harsh Snehanshu and Mr. Rajeev Mahadevan at Hindustan University and also appreciated them for their lively interaction with the students. She also thanked the staff and students for evincing keen interest and appreciated them for a lively interaction. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
