Hindustan University signs MoU with Green- CADD

First week of September 2011, Hindustan University, Chennai (www.hindustanuniv.ac.in) has taken a significant greener initiative by signing up MoU with Green-CADD, www.green-cadd.com; the Value Added Training Partner (VATP) of CAD-PLAN (www.cad-plan.com);Global German software corporation providing value added software solutions and services to the facade engineering industry for more than two decades.

With this business association, Hindustan University and Green-CADD will jointly provide Value Added, Job Oriented and Professional software training on Greener Engineering CAD Software solutions of CAD-PLAN (www.cad-plan.com) namely

ATHENA
(The world’s No. 1 software for Facade Engineering design and drafting) and Flixo (The world’s leading Thermal Analysis software to determine thermal efficiency of facades) to its Engineering students (Civil, Mechanical, Architecture, Structural and Thermal).

ATHENA
and Flixo are extensively used in the design and development of facades in construction projects around the world. Noteworthy facade construction projects using ATHENA and Flixo are Skyline Tower in Munich, Germany; Garden Tower in Frankfurt, Germany; Bur Khalifa in Dubai, UAE, Lotte Super Tower in Seoul, South Korea; Nanjing Art Museum in Nanjing, China; Chennai Airport Extension in Chennai, India, to name a few. Facades of most of the skyscrapers, major airports and major malls of the world have been designed and developed using ATHENA and Flixo respectively.

Hindustan University becomes the First University in the Asia Pacific and Middle Eastern regions to provide such training programs on Greener Engineering CAD software solutions of CAD-PLAN with its business association with Green-CADD.

With this business association, HITS engineering students (Civil, Mechanical, Architecture, Structural and Thermal) will upgrade their engineering knowledge to Facade Engineering by getting trained on ATHENA and Flixo which will further help them gain competitive advantage over their fellow job seekers in the prevailing competitive globe.

Shooting Champion of HITS

37TH STATE LEVEL SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP

Mr. R.M.Ashwin Kumar, of II 3rd year CSE,HITS won the following medals in the 37th State Level Shooting Championship held at Madras Rifle Club, Chennai from 7th to 11th September 2011.

  • 25 meter Centre Fire (.32) 265/300 New State Record 278/300, 2 individual event Gold - Junior, 1 Individual event Bronze - Senior and 1 team event Gold - Junior & Senior.
  • 25 meter standard Pistol 2 individual event Silver - Junior, team event Gold -Junior &Senior
  • 50 meter free Pistol 2 Bronze - Junior.
  • 10 meter Air Pistol 1 individual event Bronze and team event Gold - Junior.

Onam Celebration at Hindustan University

Ponnonam 2011 was celebrated at Hindustan University (Best Chennai Engineering Colleges) with traditional fervor and enthusiasm on 3rd September 2011. Mr. Anvar Saduth, playback singer from Malayalam film industry was the Chief Guest. Dr. Susan Marthandan, Director HCAS graced the occasion and shared her Onam greetings. Dr. Pon Ramalingam (Registrar) , Dr. A. Joseph Stanley (Director Academics) Deans, HOD’s , faculty members and students were present.

The program was initiated with a prayer song and then the lighting of the lamp. The Chief Guest mesmerized the audience with his musical renditions and wished every single member of Hindustan University a wonderful Onam.

A variety of program was performed by students which included traditional Kerala dances and songs such as Thiruvathira , Mohiniyattam and Vanchipattu . Chendamelam by professional artists from Kerala and the arrival of the Maveli spiced up the Onam celebrations. Students danced to the tunes of chendamelam and also conducted exciting games pepping up the celebrations. Onam Sadya , a vegetarian banquet was served by the students.

"Innovator 2011" at Hindustan University an initiative of CII

The 3rd edition of “Innovator 2011” was conducted at Hindustan University (Best Chennai Engineering Colleges) on 25th August 2011. It is a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) college excellence cluster initiative. The students from Hindustan University ,KCG College, Rajalakshmi College and SRM were present for the session.

Dr. K. Sarukesi, Vice-Chancellor, Hindustan University (Best Chennai Engineering Colleges) welcomed the guests and the students.

Mr. M. Kumar, Director Innovation, Cognizant , was the Guest of Honour and he spoke about Innovator 2011 and the importance of Power and Belief to become champions in life.

Dr Chandrasekaran, Chairman Taskforce on Education, CII Tamil Nadu and Vice President Take Solutions Limited, was the Chief Guest and he stressed on the importance of pecuniary evaluation, modern technology and communication skills. He advised the students to look into quantitative models and apply theory in real life.

Dr Aby Sam, Co chairman, Taskforce on Education, Confederation of Indian Industry ,Tamil Nadu and Director, HGI spoke on the occasion .He stated that the institution considers it as a privilege that Innovator 2011 was conducted at Hindustan University (Best Chennai Engineering Colleges) . He encouraged the students to exhibit their innovative ideas in technical fields and implement the same to benefit the society. Main focus of the event was to bring about a culture of innovation, originality and competitiveness amongst college students Mr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Pro Chancellor , Hindustan University was also present.

Mahindra Auto Quotient AQ 2011

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) (Best Chennai Engineering Colleges) hosted the Mahindra Auto Quotient 2011 on 24 August 2011 at Hindustan University. The champions of Mahindra Auto Quotient 2010 is all set to clinch the title again in the contest.

Mr. K.J. Jaichandran and Mr. M. Vijayendran, III year , School of Mechanical Sciences , Hindustan University won the Mahindra Auto Quotient 2010 National Level Auto Quiz Contest conducted by Mahindra and they made it to Geneva, Switzerland for the Geneva Motor Show 201

The ongoing Mahindra Auto Quotient 2011

Mahindra's Auto Quotient 2011 witnessed the participation of 160 teams from various colleges in and around Chennai which includes IIT Madras, CEG, VIT, SVCE etc. After a spree of written round the top six teams were selected for the on-stage finals . Hindustan University team was represented by K. J. Jaichandran and Vishnu Gopal, final year students of Automobile Department qualified as the highest scoring team.

City Round Finals at Hindustan University

The city finals consisted of five rounds of questions. Each question had a value of ten kilometers. The rounds were unique in their conception, and the questions were of very high standards. Finally, after an interesting battle between the six teams, it came down to a tie breaker between Hindustan University and IIT Madras. Hindustan University won the tie breaker thereby winning the Chennai City round as well and making it to the South Zone finals.

Hindustan University team marches ahead with confidence determined to retain the championship looking forward to the Mahindra Auto Quotient 2011, South Zone finals that will be held in Mumbai in the month of October.

Hindustan University Football team wins the Cannon Rolling Trophy

Hindustan University won the Cannon Rolling Trophy five a side Inter-Collegiate football Tournament organized by Hindu College at Avadi defeating SRM University 5-2 in the Finals. Around fifteen teams took part in the two day event.

Results: Hindustan University beat Vivekananda College 2-0 , In the Semi- Final defeated Sathyabama 5-3 and in the Finals Defeated SRM University 5-2.

Grand Finale of BRISC 2011

As an initiative to promote and encourage students in sports the management provided a platform for the students of Hindustan University (Best Chennai Engineering Colleges) by organizing Bay Range International Sports Camp (BRISC 2011) for 90 students from 5th to 12th August 2011. The students were trained by 12 international coaches working with Athletes in Action, USA. It was founded in 1966 and their motto is to build on society’s great love of sports and utilize the platform given to the athletes.

The 12 coaches were Jesse Boyd, Director, Volley Ball, Jason Stankus, Asst. Director, Basket Ball, Rebecca Dewey, Strength and Conditioning, James Borchik, Basket Ball, Nathan Stover, Basket Ball, Joe Dewey, Strength and Conditioning , Kinzi Borchik, Volleyball , Kecy Winians, Briana Brazile, Vanessa Fabriziao, Anna Pometnto and All Knight (Athletics coaches).

The camp came to an end on 12th August 2011. Mr. Ashok Verghese , Director, HITS honoured the international coaches during the valedictory function at the end of the camp and mementos were presented to them . The camp concluded with an exhibition match between the coaches and the students of Hindustan University.

Garage One 2011 Seminar

Garage One 2011 a seminar cum training programme was organized at Hindustan University by Dr. M. Subramanian, HOD and staff members of the Department of Automobile Engineering. It was inaugurated on 11th June 2011 by Mr. Nitin Raina, Vice-President, Metawing Enterprises. The programme was held from 11th June to 25th June 2011.

The aim of the programme was to give inputs about FSAE (Formula SAE) for the Automobile engineering students. It was conducted by Metawing Enterprises in collaboration with IIT, Kharagpur and IEEE

Mr. Mujeeb Khan and Mr. Anshul of Metawing Enterprises were the resource persons and they dealt with the topics related to Chassis, Suspension, Steering assembly, Brakes, Engine, Solid works and Lotus suspension software. They provided course materials related to FSAE such as Design, Development and Simulation Tutorial. They also conducted an examination based on the course materials and evaluated the performance of the students. Certificates of Merit were also distributed to the students. 160 students from all over India including 10 students from our University participated in the seminar cum training programme.
