Gap Theory Musical Concert

Hindustan University are witnessing a string of events chartered for Silver Jubilee Valedictory Programme . On 6th October 2011 the Christian Music Concert struck a chord as a team of gifted singers from abroad performed with sophisticated musical instruments , The team is part of the Campus Crusade, Global Music Band. The main theme of the Music Concert was Gap Theory , it made the audience ponder over the questions mentioned below.

How do we make sense of disparity as members of the human race?
How are we creating a context complex enough to accommodate everything?

Above all the title, Gap Theory’ suggests that much of life is about trying to jump the gap between what we believe to be true and what we see with our eyes.

International band Keynote, the Gap Theory, starring Ethan, Trevor, Seth, Scott and Stephen performed with reverence, divinity and lively spirit.

The students made a bee line to the Open Air Theatre with enthusiasm to listen and visualize the mesmerizing performance by the Band. The students enjoyed dancing to the beats of the music and it turned into a crescendo as the guests made the crowd hysteric with the patriotic song “Jai ho”. The testimony shared by Seth was touching as it erupted from the divine soul and made everyone feel from their hearts. Mr. Ashok Verghese , Director Hindustan University applauded the band and presented them with mementos. The performance by the band was a fitting note of celebration by the grace of the Almighty as the Institution celebrates its Silver Jubilee year.

National Workshop by Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics, Hindustan University organized a two-day National Workshop on ‘Application of Fuzzy Theory- NWAFT 2011, on 10th and 11th August 2011. Eminent Mathematicians from renowned institutions like GRI, IIT Madras, Loyola College, DBML College and SIVET College were invited as resource persons.

The workshop began with a warm and cordial welcome by Dr. M. L. Suresh, Professor, followed by the felicitations of the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of Hindustan University. The Chief Guest Dr. W. B. Vasantha Kandasamy, Professor, IIT Madras inaugurated the Workshop. In the first session, Dr.W.B. Vasantha Kandasamy, IIT Madras presented a lecture on ‘Basic Concepts of Fuzzy Logic’. In the second session, she gave clear exposition on ‘Applications of Chemical Engineering’. In the third session Dr. J.E.L. Priya Kumar, DBML College, Karaikal, delivered a speech on ‘Applications of Stochastic Ordering’. In the final session of the 1st day, Dr. A. Victor Devadoss, Loyala College, Chennai, provided new insights from the ‘Fuzzy Bio-Medicine’.

There were four sessions on the 2nd day and the first one was by Dr. P. Balasubramaniam, GRI, Dindigul. He elucidated ‘Fuzzy Control Systems’. by Dr. Antony Xavier, Loyola College, Chennai spoke on . ‘Fuzzy Graph Theory’ Dr. K. Thirusangu, SIVET, Chennai, gave a lecture on ‘Fuzzy Petrinets’. Dr. V. Ramachandran from Anna University, Chennai gave a talk on ‘Fuzzy Applications’.

In the Valedictory session, Dr. Devanathan Rajagopalan, Dean, EEE, expressed his passion for Mathematics and emphasized the importance of Mathematics as an indelible and all-pervading component of Engineering. Mrs. D. Priyadarshani, Assistant Professor, proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Tennis Champ of HITS hauls medals at Youth Games 2011 at Malaysia

MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE AND INDIANS YOUTH GAMES 2011

Ms. P. A. Sindhu Nila of 1st year B. Arch of Hindustan University(one of the best chennai engineering colleges) represented Tamil Nadu and participated in Malaysia, Singapore Indians Youth Games 2011 conducted at Malaysia from 27th to 30th August 2011. She participated in the Tennis events and won the singles match 6-3, 6-2 , won the doubles match 8-4 and also won the mixed doubles match 7-6, 7-5. Totally out of seven matches Tamil Nadu team won 5 matches and bagged the Overall Trophy.

Indian Youth Games 2011

Mr. Sharath Mukundan of (Mech 3c), Hindustan University (one of the best Chennai Engineering Colleges) won a Gold medal in 50m Free Style Relay and three Silver Medals in50m Butterfly event 50m and 100m Breast stroke in the Swimming event held at the Youth Games 2011, Malaysia.



The events were conducted from 27th to 30th August 2011. Mr. Sharath Mukundan represented Tamilnadu and participated in the Swimming events and brought glory to the state and the institution.

National Seminaron Advances in Composites

A seminar on the topic “Advances in Composites” was conducted by the Department of Aeronautical, Hindustan University (One of the best Chennai Engineering Colleges), Chennai in collaboration with The Aeronautical Society of India, Chennai Branch on September 29, 2011. Dr. Alan Chambers, Professor Southampton University, UK was the Chief Guest. In his lecture he spoke on the benefits and challenges faced by the application of the composite technology in the various fields.

He also mentioned about the green composites which uses eco-friendly components to make the composites. Dr. Alan Chambers also highlighted on the impact of Composites on the Aircraft Structure. Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Chancellor , Hindustan University presided over the function and was glad that the seminar served as a platform for discussing the current trends in material composites. Mr. Ashok Verghese, Director, Dr. K. Sarukesi, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Joseph Stanley, Director Academics, Prof. R. Asokan, HOD Aero. Dept. graced the occasion and highlighted the need for research and development in this area of frontier technology.

Dr .A. Joseph Stanley explained the significance of the composites in the aircraft structural design. Dr. Patrick Kennedy, Scientist ‘F’, ADE spoke about the “Thermal Analysis of Laminated Composites Shell”. Prof. R. Velmurugan , Head of Composite Division in IIT-M, Chennai briefed about the Impact Studies on Composite Materials. This was followed by a talk titled “NDT for Composite Applications” by Dr. Chandan Kumar Mukhopadhyay, Scientist “G” in IGCAR.

At the end of the session, the students and faculty members interacted and clarified their queries. Dr. Alan Chambers showed keen interest to respond to the queries and appreciated the knowledgeable audience.

FIESTA 2011

Freshers’ day celebrations were held pompously in the campus on 22nd September 2011, as Fiesta 2011. Mr. Prashant Thyagrajan was the Chief Guest. Ms Mili Chandy (Mrs. Chennai 2005) was the Guest of Honour.

Dr. K. Sarukesi, Vice-Chancellor in his Welcome Address accorded a warm welcome to the freshmen Batch 2016. He mentioned that there is ample scope provided in the University that would help the students groom their personality and lead them to achieve success in life.

In his Presidential Address, Mr. Ashok Verghese , Director, Hindustan University stated that he connected himself with the freshmen as he had the same aura and excitement surge through him years ago when he was a student. He appreciated the creativity of the students and mentioned that the talents showcased by the students every year have been innovative and redefining with times. He encouraged the student community to have a clear vision ahead in the field of education and excel in their chosen fields. He advised the students to use their potential in the right way and follow the guidelines of the University to reach the epitome of success.

Actor, Mr. Prashant Thyagrajan in his speech said that he was extremely happy to be at Hindustan University and be a part of the Freshers’ Day celebrations. He gave his inputs regarding the value of education. He said education is the backbone for a successful life. He mentioned that the students are fortunate to be at Hindustan University. He expressed his opinion that just as we can ensure satisfaction in job only if we work hard and attain perfection in a similar manner we can attain contentment only if we emerge as a graduate from a reputed institution.

The celebrations concluded with a plethora of exciting events. It was an exhilarating concoction of music , dance, ramp walk etc . There was a mind blowing host performance by Spring boots dancers and a scintillating dance performance by Alchemista. The audience enjoyed it to the tilt. To top it all the Ramp Walk with a theme Bond vs Debangg was a treat to the audience and they cheered the talented students who presented themselves as professionals.

ALBEDO'11, Aero Symposium

The School of Aeronautical Sciences conducted a symposium “Albedo’11” on 17th September 2011. Dr. A. Joseph Stanley, Director Academics inaugurated the programme. Dr. M. Y. S. Prasad, Associate Director, SDSC, SHAR, ISRO was the Chief Guest. Professor R. Asokan expressed his happiness for the support rendered by the management and staff members of the department to conduct this event.




A magazine titled “Ingravidez” was released on the occasion of the symposium along with a compact disc containing an e-copy of the magazine.


Paper presentation, Air-crash investigation, Bottle rocketry, Glider, Technical quiz, CAD modeling and Gaming events were conducted for the students. Air-crash investigation was an interesting event testing the practical application of all the theoretical knowledge attained during the Aeronautical Degree. Gaming was also conducted in the CAD lab . Students from various colleges received numerous prizes.

Engineer's Day Celebration

Engineers’ Day was celebrated on 15.09.2011 at Hindustan University. Dr. P. Sivakumar, Director, CVRDE was the Chief Guest . Dr. K. Sarukesi delivered the Welcome Address and he spoke on the role of students to become a successful Engineer. He also introduced the Chief Guest Dr. P. Sivakumar, Director, CVRDE to the audience. The keynote address was delivered by the Chief Guest Dr. P. Sivakumar. The Chief Guest spoke on the contributions of Bharat Ratna Shri. Visweswaraiah a notable Indian engineer, scholar, statesman and the Diwan of Mysore who was responsible for successful design and construction of several river dams, bridges and implementing irrigation and drinking water schemes all over India. There was also an interesting presentation on CVRDE and DRDO activities by Dr. P. Sivakumar that encompassed the present and future developments in the field of Defence Vehicles. The recruitment process and procedure in CVRDE were also dealt by the speaker. Dr. P. Sivakumar highlighted the research opportunities available in CVRDE for PG students and faculty members. He concluded his speech with a stress on budding Engineers to become employable with a focus on knowledge enhancement, analytical skill and innovative practices. Dr. K. Sarukesi presented a memento to the Chief Guest. Dr. Pon Ramalingam, Registrar proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. A. Joseph Stanley, Director (Academics) also spoke on the occasion.
