International Education Day Celebrations at HITS

Hindustan University celebrated “International Education Day” on 10th February 2012. As a part of the celebration, 17 Korean students were conferred certificates for their meritorious performance in a four month certificate course on English, Indian History, Art and Culture and Business Studies for International Students(EIBIS). It’s heartening to note that three of the Korean students who completed the EIBIS Course were also placed in reputed firms in India .

The International Day programme comprised of programmes wherein representatives from US,Britain,France,Netherlands and German Consulates addressed the students and sensitized them on the education system and courses in their respective nations .The inauguration of the event followed presentations made by representatives from various countries .

The Chief Guest of the day, Mr Adam Kotkins, Vice Consul, American Consulate,Chennai while addressing the audience stated that he was very happy with the educational possibilities that the students were able to access and it left no doubt that every opportunity the University gave its foreign students will be made use of. The International Education Day was yet another occasion to celebrate.

Mr Ashok Verghese, Director, Hindustan University stated that the university has been the hub of imparting education to foreign students. It catered to the feel of building a world community and enhancing, envisioning and broadly the views, perspective and mutual understanding between various countries and India. The mosaic of cultural semblance endued with academic excellence was the focus of any scholar who wishes to pursue his education at Hindustan University.

Mr Bruce Miller, the Dean International Affairs proposed the Vote of Thanks. He thanked the Chief Guest, Mr. Adam Kotnis, Mr. Ashok Verghese, Director, HITS and he appreciated the Management for their support in conducting the EIBIS course and also making it possible to conduct the International Day programme. He also appreciated the efforts taken by Ms. Akkara Sherine, Academic Coordinator and all the staff members associated with the EIBIS programme for sucessfully conducting the course. He also acknowledged the efforts of all the staff and students associated with the International Day programme. The Dean also profusely appreciated the efforts of Ms. Vanitha, the staff of the Department of International Affairs for her sincere cooperation.

Congratulations! Mr. Ashok Verghese , President of Hindustan Eagles Football Club

Hindustan Group of Institutions has bought Madras Eagles Football Club, a Chennai Football Association first division club and christened it as Hindustan Eagles Football Club. MoU was signed by Mr. Ashok Verghese and Madras Eagles FC Secretary, Mr. J.M Fernando .

Mr. Ashok Verghese , Director, HITS will be the President and Mr. J. M . Fernando will be Secretary of the Hindustan Eagles Football Club. Mr. Ashok Verghese said, “This initiative is our effort to promote the game in Chennai”. Mr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Pro-Chancellor & CEO, HGI stated that, “We want to build a strong team. Our long term aim is to get into the National League”. Mr. Abraham Verghese, Sports Advisor , HITS said ,” We want to progress step by step. I hope our initiative will encourage other colleges to get involved with football”.

TVS Apache Racing Experience,Chennai

TVS Racing organized an event called TVS Apache Racing Experience exclusively for the TVS Apache RTR owners at the Madras Motor Sports Club race track. The main aim of this event was to give the Apache customers a clear insight on what their race bred machines are capable of and to let them know all about TVS racing and their motocross and track racing machines. This event was organized at four selected cities across India, viz. Chennai, Pune, Gwalior and Delhi. The participation into this event was very easy as the owners of RTR 160 and RTR 180 had to just register their names at any local TVS showrooms. At the time of registration, the participants received a decal which was considered as entry badge and was also presented at the venue. The entry into the event was subjected to signing of an indemnity bond at the time of registrations which was also compulsory to be presented at the venue. The bike had to be brought in their stock condition i.e. no performance tuning or upgrades were allowed on the machines so as to keep uniformity in the machines. Out of all, the main requirements were the helmets, driver’s license and lots of guts!! Non-compliance with the rules and regulation would lead to disqualification. These machines would be racing in their respective classes. Top two riders from each class would be selected, similarly from each region and they would get to participate in the final race "RTR CUP" in the upcoming month of May 2012. To reward their hardwork and talent, the winner from each class of finals would get a special training at the Silverstone track in UK.Vishnu Gopal and Sahay Fernando from Hindustan Institute of Technology, Chennai participated in the event in 180cc and 160 cc respectively.

Vishnu Gopal (Final Year –Department of Automobile Engineering) not only won the Chennai zone event but also clocked one of the fastest lap timings at the track 1mins 25secs and with the pole position in his class. Now he will be racing against best of the best of other zones at the same race track in the month of May. He was presented with an Alpine star racing jacket.

Sahay Fernando (Pre-Final Year –Department of Automobile Engineering) had a great start in the race. He did a timing of 1.32 falling short of the pole position hardly by a second and claiming the second pole. He will be trying again in the Gwalior edition of ARE for find a place in the finals.

Report on Mobile Broadband Workshop

The objective of this workshop was to initiate the awareness on mobile computing and latest technology implemented in mobile broadband area and also opportunities available for the post graduate students through industrial expert.

Dr. S. Nagarajan, HOD-IT commenced the programme and in his address he stated that every individual should strive to achieve the vision of the FOUNDER CHAIRMAN, DR. K.C.G. Verghese, “To make every man a success and no man a failure” and follow the various steps scrupulously till the goal is achieved.

Dr. M. Roberts Masilamani, Dean - Computing Sciences. in his address expressed his views about how Indians get influenced by foreign culture. He gave information about contest conducted by Intel. he also emphasized about the importance of utilization of resources .

Mr. Ramapathy Ayodhi, Senior Program Manager, Wipro Technologies, Chennai the Guest of Honour addressed about Indian education system, rendering service to our country and act according to our thoughts and not by others compulsion.

Mr.Franklin Yesudas, Asst.Prof, Dept.of Information Technology, proposed the Vote of Thanks.

During the technical session Mr. K. Rajasekar, Divisional Engineer, BSNL, gave valuable inputs regarding Wired and Wireless connection along with classifications in Networks. He discussed about the Architecture of Bluetooth, Wifi and latest technology Wimax. The pre lunch session ended with statistics about number of telephones and Broadband users.

The second technical session was focused on 2G, 3G and upcoming 4G technology. The resource person also explained the differences between the datacard, Wifi and WiMax.

Hindustan University commemorates Martyr's Day

The Youth Red Cross and National Service scheme, social units of Hindustan University commemorated Martyr’s Day in a unique way by organizing a Blood Donation Camp at the MGR Hall, Bay Range campus, Padur. Three organizations – the Indian Red Cross Society, Voluntary Health Service and Kilpauk Medical College’s – mobile unit, conducted the Blood Donation Camp. The slogan was “Donate your blood for a reason, let the reason be life”. They wanted to donate blood and ‘gift’ a person ‘life’ .The camp had three hundred and fifty four donors which comprised of students from various departments and faculty members.

The Martyr’s day is commemorated in honour of the departed Father of Our Nation Mahatma Gandhi’s death and soldiers who sacrificed and shed their blood for the Nation. At Hindustan University the Youth Red Cross and National Service Scheme through the Blood Donation Camp, collected blood to save the life of the “needy in distress”. The Blood Donation was for the “living life” in the Nation.

Hindustan University is the hall mark for doing things differently which are -meaningful, symbolic and significant. Earlier the Festival of lights was celebrated by the Youth Red Cross, with the distribution of clothes, dates, and toiletries for Cancer patients at the Cancer Hospital, Adyar with the view- “to light up the lives of the people in distress afflicted by Cancer”.

The social units like Youth Red Cross and National Service Scheme of the Hindustan University, take active part in social work and social responsibilities. The units carry forward the torch of philanthropy lit by their Founder, Chairman Late Dr. K. C. G. Verghese, making “life” more meaningful and significant to every student in the campus, as its vision – To Make Every Man a Success and No Man a Failure.” Mrs. Ramakrishnasayee, Programme officer of the Youth Red Cross, Assistant Professor, School of Management and Mr. Manivannan, Programme Officer of the NSS Scheme, Assistant Professor, School of Aeronautical Sciences were instrumental in conducting this noble event. The Blood Donation Camp was jointly organized by the Youth Red Cross and National Service Scheme of the Hindustan University.­­

Seminar on Recent Trends and Development in Wind Energy

Department of EEE conducted one day seminar on ‘’Recent Trends and Development in Wind Energy’’ on 25th January 2012. The seminar was conducted for the benefit of pre final year, final year EEE, M.E (PED) & M.E (AE) students. There were around 100 participants.

Dr. K. Sarukesi, Vice Chancellor addressed the students and emphasized the importance of Green Energy and also discussed the issues involved in transporting materials for installing a wind turbine.

Dr.R.Devanthan, Dean (ES&CENCON) pointed out the importance of wind energy. He also added the social significance of the topic.

In Session I, Dr.S.Gomathinayagam, Executive Director, C-WET gave a comprehensive lecture on ‘Wind Power Technology and Development’’.

In session II, Ms.Deepa Kurup, Scientist, C-WET gave a lecture on ‘’Grid Integration of Wind Turbine ’’.

In session III, Mr. S.Arul Selvan, Assistant Engineer, C-WET gave a lecture on “Requirement of Control and Protective System for Wind Turbine”.

Inauguration and blessings of the New Administration Block at Hindustan University

The programme commenced with prayers by Rev. Joby Thomas Samuel, Student , Chaplain , Hindustan University. Dr. K. Sarukesi , Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Pon. Ramalingam, Registrar, Dr. A. Joseph Stanley Director Academics, Prof. L. Jayachandran Controller of Examinations , HOD’s and Deans of all departments and few staff members were present on the occasion.

The Block was blessed by Rev. Joby Thomas Samuel, Chaplain and Dr. A. George, Dean Student Affairs offered the dedication prayer service. Hymns were rendered by the students’ choir and there was a lighting of the Kuthuvillaku. The keys of the COE Dept. and the Registrar’s office were blessed and handed over to MR. L. Jayachandran , COE and Dr. Pon Ramalingam, Registrar respectively.

63rd Republic Day Celebrations at Hindustan University

Hindustan University celebrated the 63rd Republic Day on 25thJanuary 2012. The programme was held at the Open Air Theatre, HITS at 3.30p.m. Dr. K. Sarukesi , Vice-Chancellor , Dr. Pon Ramalingam, Registrar, Dr. Joseph Stanley, Director Academics, Mr. Santosh Verghese, Special Officer and Mr. Giri, Flying Officer , NCC Co-ordinator , HITS were present along with the Chief Guest Commodore Amar K. Mahadevan, Naval Officer-in-charge (TN).

The programme began with a Welcome Address by Dr. K. Sarukesi, Vice-Chancellor and it was followed by the introduction of the Chief Guest by Mr. Giri, NCC Co-ordinator of HITS. The University students rendered the song “VandeMatharam” kindling the patriotic spirit of the staff and students witnessing the programme. Dr. K. Sarukesi presented a momento to the Chief Guest.

The Chief Guest was invited to hoist the flag in the campus and the National Anthem was sung in unison, followed by distribution of sweets rejoicing the Republic Day celebrations.

The Chief Guest in his address expressed his happiness for being invited to Hindustan University for the Republic Day Celebrations. He gave an inspiring speech stating his personal experiences as Naval Officer. He informed that every Indian has a responsibility to contribute for the growth of the Nation. He also informed that no matter the profession, whether a doctor, engineer or professionals in any field every Indian should have the feeling that he belongs to this Nation. He expressed that he considers an individual who desists from going abroad after his education in reputed institutions of our country to work in India as a true patriot. Such level of patriotism exhibited by common man should be appreciated and it reflects the true patriotic spirit. He reiterated the fact that it is not essential that individuals should serve the Army, Navy and Airforce to show their patriotism, common man have more opportunities to exhibit their patriotism through small acts such as a even a small child exhibiting interest in keeping the surroundings clean etc. He ended his speech wishing the staff and students Happy Republic Day.

The next agenda of the programme was the prize distribution ceremony. Several awards and letters of appreciation were presented to the staff members of Hindustan University in recognition of their work. The Chief Guest awarded letters of appreciation to Prof. Winfred, (English Dept.), Dr. A. George (Dean, Student Affairs) and Dr. C. Jayalatha (Chemistry Dept.) for organizing and conducting the Choral Competitions 2011 during the X Mas celebrations at Hindustan University. Letter of Appreciation was also awarded to Ms. S. Vanitha , Asst. Prof. MCA for successfully completing 6 batches of Oracle WDP Programme and 2 batches of C Programming for HITS students. The Chief Guest also presented a letter of appreciation to two staff members Ms. Akkara Sherine, Asst. Prof. & Editor, English Dept. and Mr. Tald Mathew George, Executive Assistant to Director for their contribution towards bringing out the Silver Jubilee Souvenir.

Ms. S. B. Vanitha, Officer, International Affairs and Mr. Prem Kumar , Office Assistant, Aero. Dept. received awards for the fifth consecutive time for having maximum leave to their credit.
